Jakhoo Temple – The Abode of Lord Hanuman in Shimla

Nestled atop Jakhoo Hill, the highest point in Shimla, Jakhoo Temple is a sacred pilgrimage site dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Surrounded by serene deodar trees and steeped in mythological significance, the temple offers a peaceful retreat and panoramic views of the snow-clad Himalayas.

Mythological Significance

According to legend, Lord Hanuman rested on Jakhoo Hill while searching for the Sanjeevani Booti to revive Lakshman during the Ramayana war. It is believed that the hill bears the footprint of Hanuman, where the temple now stands. This divine connection makes Jakhoo Temple a spiritually powerful destination.

The Iconic Hanuman Statue

One of the major attractions here is the 108-feet tall statue of Lord Hanuman, which towers above the treetops and is visible from various parts of Shimla. Inaugurated in 2010, this massive sculpture is even taller than the Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil and adds a majestic aura to the temple.

Trek and Ropeway Experience

Visitors can either trek for about 30-45 minutes from the Ridge or take the Jakhoo Ropeway, a quick and scenic ride offering stunning aerial views of Shimla town. The trail is often accompanied by monkeys, which are considered devotees of Hanuman but should be approached with caution.

Peaceful Surroundings and Spiritual Vibes

The temple itself is small but exudes peace and devotion. The spiritual chants, the gentle sound of bells, and the cool mountain breeze create a divine atmosphere. Pilgrims light incense and offer prayers, seeking blessings for strength, courage, and protection.

Best Time to Visit

The ideal time to visit Jakhoo Temple is from March to June and September to November, when the weather is pleasant and the skies are clear. During Dussehra, special celebrations are held, drawing devotees and tourists alike.
